A new bathroom can be one of the biggest investments people make to their homes, so it makes sense that you would be interested in every aspect of the bathroom.
Ensuring that your bathtub is the highest quality is the key to making sure that your bathroom stays functional and appealing for many years to come.
But how exactly are our walk-in baths made? Let’s take a look in more detail.
How are the bathtubs made?
Every bathtub that we make is comprised of five distinct layers, all with different properties and characteristics. All of our bathtubs are traditionally made, with each of the five separate layers being applied by hand.
The first layer is the layer you see. It’s constructed from neopentyl-glycol in-mould coating, which offers excellent resistance to many household products, including the mild alkalines and bleaches you find in cleaning products and shampoos. It’s highly recommended and well proven in its field.
Next comes a double coating of the top surface, increasing the protection of the bathtub. This means that scratches and mild blemishes can be removed relatively easily, similarly to how scrapes on a car can be buffed out.
Behind these two top layers sit the backing material, which is made of f reinforced crystic resin. This gives the bath strength and rigidity, whilst still allowing for the slight flexibility that’s required of a bathtub.
Underneath the backing material is the structural part of the bath, which is supplemented by a dense, resin-saturated core-mat. The steel frame is covered in a corrosion-resistant, powder coating.
Unlike steel bathtubs, bathtubs made from acrylic and resin retain heat much better. This means that you’re more likely to stay warmer for longer in an acrylic or resin bathtub.
The final layer is made of reinforced crystic resin that protects the underside of the bathtub, and this material in particular has superior resistance to heat, chemicals and water.
What else goes into them?
There’s more to a walk-in bath than just the tub, however. A walk-in bath has one other key element to it – a seal.
It might sound obvious, but the seal is one of the most important aspects of a bath with a door. Without a good seal, the bathtub will leak all over the floor.
Because the seal is so important, we use only the best non-perishable silicone memory seals in our tubs. These seals have a unique double bubble design to prevent any leaks from occurring.
The doors and closures are also designed in such a way that they take very little effort to do so, therefore making them usable for anyone, even those who have limited mobility.
